Common Questions
Everything You're
Probably Wondering
What is Round Up for Recycling?+
Round Up for Recycling is a voluntary checkout program that gives customers a simple way to support their store's recycling and community initiatives. At checkout, customers are asked if they'd like to round up their total — the funds help support the programs your store believes in, including cannabis packaging recycling, Goodwill employment, and other great community initiatives!
Is Round Up optional?+
Yes. Always. Customers decide whether they'd like to participate at checkout. There is no obligation to round up or participate in the recycling program. The budtender simply offers the opportunity — the customer's choice is always respected.
How does Goodwill Industries fit into the program?+
All cannabis packaging collected through the program is processed at Goodwill Industries of Alberta facilities. This creates meaningful employment for people with disabilities — so every bin your customers fill supports not just recycling, but real jobs in your community.
How do the monthly giveaways work?+
To enter, customers scan a QR code in-store and take a selfie with their drop-off. Each submission goes into the monthly prize draw for gift cards, RID merchandise, and cannabis brand prizes. Winners are announced each month — one more reason for your customers to keep coming back.
How much material has been diverted from landfill?+
Over 200,000 lbs of cannabis packaging has been collected through the program — packaging that isn't ending up in your local landfills or being littered in your community. That represents over 3 million containers collected and counting.
What does the impact report look like?+
Every month we send your store a diversion report showing exactly how much packaging was collected and kept out of landfill. It's real data you can share with your team, your customers, and your community — showing the real impact your store is making.
